Succession of Witches is Finished(ish)
Good news, Book Two of the Familiar Series finally has a title: Succession of Witches. More importantly, I have a draft that I’m happy with and I think I’m going to be ready to publish it to Kindle pretty soon. I was disappointed that I couldn’t make my initial holidays 2012 release, so I definitely didn’t want to miss my spring 2013 deadline. Right now, I need to get some...

Moving To New Blog
I’ve decided it’s silly to have separate blogs for all of my projects, so I’m going to move everything, including posts on my books, to my main blog, Otakusphere.com. I’ll keep this one up for a while, but I’m moving all my posts over to that blog. This way, in addition to getting updates on new books in The Familiar Series, you can also check out some of my art and...

Bad, Bad Titles
This late in the game, the lack of even a proposed title for the sequel to The Problem With Black Magic is getting worrisome. The problem is, I hate any title that sounds pretentious, and I also tend to dislike cutesy titles that reference pop culture. These limitations render 99.9 percent of all possible titles off limits. Since I can’t tell you what the book will be named, at the very least I...

timsheehy asked: I'm having a hard time taking black magic seriously, is there something over-the-counter that can help with that? How will I know if black magic is right for me? Are there side-effects? Should I consult a physician before using black magic? Finally, the term black magic seems a bit droll. Could we just substitute the term dark magic? I mean, it just seems less racist.

New Book: Spring 2013
I didn’t end up making my self-imposed holiday 2012 deadline for Book 2, obviously. I could have rushed it to try to make the artificial deadline, but obviously, I want the book to be good first and foremost. After taking a bit of a break from writing so I could come back to it refreshed (and also to deal with some real-job stuff) I’m looking forward to finally putting down all the...

Demonic Playlist
I put together a playlist on my iPhone for The Familiar Series. In theory it’s supposed to be for writing, but usually listening to music while writing distracts me too much, so I usually listen to it at other times- at the gym, while drawing, and so on. It’s a combination of songs that both deal directly with things featured in the series, like demons (hence the name) and songs that...

An interview I gave
Hey guys, this is pretty cool. I was interviewed by The Independent Book Authority and they said I could post the interview on my blog before it goes to print in their magazine! I hope you enjoy...

Marriage Time
I wanted to post some new art for you today (actually some new old art, but you know what I mean), however, here’s the situation: all of my artwork is on my desktop. My desktop is in the front room, where we don’t have a room air conditioning. It is, on conservative estimate, 200 billion degrees in our front room. So no art until I can leave our air-conditioned living room without...

Getting Cozy With PNR
Yesterday, I went to the library to pick up some books…and before anyone jumps on me, I happen to purchase plenty of books, with real money even! It’s just that Deborah Harkness’ Shadow of Night just came out and I didn’t want the hardcover, nor did I particularly feel like spending ten bucks for an ebook, so I wanted to see if the library had it. Okay? Okay. As long as I...

Book 2 Progress
Since people keep asking me “When’s the second book coming out already?” I figured I’d provide what information I can here. Creating the print version of TPWBM via Createspace is actually taking much too long, so I’m probably going to toss that aside until I finish Book 2. Granted, formatting the print version really shouldn’t take long enough to matter one way...

Version 1.1 Available Now
I just finished uploading the slightly edited version of TPWBM, which I created after noticing some typos while reading the book on my own Kindle. Honestly, I was shocked and more than a little disappointed in myself; I thought after all the time I’d spent reading through the book, I would have caught all of those annoying little buggers by now. I know one major reason why many readers...

Print Version In Progress
Contemplating the print version of the book after a delicious “writer’s dinner” of ramen and pop tarts. Yum. Okay, normally I eat healthier meals than that, but tonight it felt appropriate. Currently going through a little bit of formatting hell with the book, since no matter what I do, Createspace doesn’t like my fonts. I’ve tried removing the font Createspace found...

Welcome To The Problem With Black Magic
This is the blog for everything related to my first book, The Problem With Black Magic, and it’s forthcoming sequels in what I’m tentatively calling The Familiar Series. I wanted to call it The Modern Magic series to keep all my bets covered, but fortunately I was persuaded to abandon that dumb idea:). As I write this, the book is going through a short waiting period before becoming...
